With the purchase of the plant, ONC will now offer its customers a completely integrated supply chain, from primary processing through to finished ingredient.
“The acquisition of the Piura facility is a huge step forward for our company and through this, Ocean Nutrition is changing the competitive landscape of our industry,” said Martin Jamieson, ONC president and CEO. “We now have four processing facilities on two continents. As the global leader in a fast-growing industry, our goal is to stay three steps ahead of the competition. Customers will appreciate the many advantages our enhanced supply chain will provide them.”
ONC’s brand of MEG-3 fish oil ingredients sources the majority of its raw materials from the coastal upwelling region off Peru. The Piura facility has been the primary refining facility for the organisation for more than four years, through an exclusive partnership with Peruvian food company Alicorp SA ONC’s other facilities include corporate headquarters and a microencapsulation plant in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, an oil refining plant in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia and a microencapsulation plant in Arcadia, Wisconsin.
The 108 employees at the Piura facility have joined the ONC team, bringing the company’s total employees to more than 400. “We’re thrilled to welcome the Piura employees into the Ocean Nutrition family,” said Jamieson. “Together, we’re strengthening our global leadership position as we continue to evolve and grow our company.”
