Flexible packaging innovator Excelsior Technologies will launch a series of new food on-the-go solutions later this month, including a pouch that tears open to provide a “lightweight pouch bowl” for the contents inside.
Snack&Go is a unique pouch design that offers an innovative and environmentally conscious alternative to bulkier on-the-go snacking solutions, ensuring no-mess, minimum packaging waste and reduced risk of product contamination, Excelsior said.
The packaging technology is available fully printed and in a range of substrates, and features a separate pocket to hold utensils, napkins, sauces or additional toppings. The consumer simply tears the top section away from the pouch and eats from the the lightweight bowl. Snack&Go can be utilised by manufacturers for the packaging fruit, salads, pasta and a wide variety of on-the-go snacks.
It will be debuted at the show Lunch!, which is taking place on 21-22 September in London.
Excelsior Technologies sales director Julie Eller said: “The on-the-go food sector is one of today’s fastest growing and exciting categories, and we are proud to launch a series of new solutions at this prestigious annual event.
“The UK’s food-to-go industry is worth around £15 billion a year, and is hungry for eye-catching and highly-functional packaging innovations.”
As well as Snack&Go, Excelsior has developed Lunch&Go – a lightweight solution for food-to-go counters that utilises Excelsior’s CookTech technology to offer the same benefits as a Snack&Go pouch, but with the addition of Excelsior’s SteamFast valve to turn it into a microwaveable snack-and-go bag for hot lunches.
In addition, Grab&Go is an eye-catching, portable and resealable lunch box alternative idea for eating on-the-go all day. It is available fully printed and in a range of substrates, Excelsior said.
Eller continued: “Excelsior’s proven FreshTech and CookTech flexible packaging technologies have enabled the creation of a series of innovations including Snack&Go, Grab&Go and Lunch&Go. These lightweight convenience packs maximise shelf-life presentation and deliver a great consumer experience.
“We are also exhibiting a range of foodservice solutions including SoupFast, Store&Steam, Zip’nSteam and Bake Lux, which improve efficiency and cut down on food waste. We look forward to demonstrating the benefits of all these packaging solutions at the event.”
