Pepsi has extended its range of cola flavours with the launch of new lime-flavoured Pepsi Limón, which the Manhattan-based company will increase appeal among Hispanic consumers.
Pepsi Limón combines original Pepsi cola and 2% lime juice for “a great tasting cola” that appeals to Hispanic drinkers’ flavour preferences. The innovation “captures the tart, refreshing taste that Hispanics love to enjoy with their meals and in their beverages,” PepsiCo said.
Packaged in 20oz and 2l bottles, the new drink will be available in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas – the four US states with the largest proportional Hispanic and Latino populations, according to statistics from 2012. The drink will also be available from retailers in Chicago, where census figures showed that 28% of the population was Hispanic. The 2010 census recorded 50m people nationally of Hispanic or Latino descent.
Pepsi senior manager of cultural and commercial strategy Melissa Miranda said: “Pepsi knows the importance of authentic flavour and delivering on its promise for great tasting products. Pepsi’s roots have long showcased the brand’s connection and affinity with Hispanic consumers and Pepsi Limón was created with those consumer preferences in mind.”
