Tea brand PG Tips has dressed its mascot up as the Queen and released its very own Christmas message, as it reminds people to “keep it tea” this holiday season.
The tongue-in-cheek video taps into the occasion of the Queen’s Speech on Christmas Day. It continues PG Tips’ recent Keep it Tea campaign to prompt consumers of the continued cultural relevance of tea and its power to keep them grounded – even in an “age of selfies and frothy lattes,” as Monkey explains.
The video opens with Monkey, complete with hairpiece, pearl earrings and sachet, delivering an address to viewers. It then descends into chaos, as the character keeps getting his words wrong and becomes the worse for several glasses of sherry.
Kate Hearn, Unilever UK’s senior brand manager for PG Tips, said: “Monkey’s Queen’s Speech opens with good intentions but soon ends with humorous results. We hope it will remind consumers about ‘keeping it tea’ over the festive season.”
