Plant-based ingredients company Roquette has launched a new pea protein that is said to enable the preparation of a variety of meat substitutes for new taste experiences.
Called Nutralys T70S, the ingredient has a fibrous texture and “can mimic various types of meats like beef, poultry, pork and fish”.
France-based Roquette said it is responding to the growth of flexitarian diets among consumers. The European meat substitutes market has an average 7% annual growth rate.
Marc Renaud, Roquette market manager Europe, said: “Taste and texture are the indisputable attributes with which to convince flexitarians that they can find appetising solutions. This makes it a key to painlessly reducing meat product consumption. That’s why we developed a new grade of textured pea protein with an improved texture.”
He added: “With Nutralys T70S, Roquette’s ambitious aim is to become the leader in non-soy, plant-based protein enrichment for the meat substitutes market.”
Roquette said that the ingredient allows flexible dosage and inspiring flavours. It is gluten free and “70% protein and 7% fibre”.
Earlier this year Roquette expanded its Food Customer Technical Service Centre in Tokyo as it responds to rising local demand for plant-based proteins, fibres and healthy carbohydrates.
The facility has increased in size by 50% as Roquette targets Japanese and Asian customers with its specialised nutrition products – baby food, maternal nutrition, sports nutrition, weight management, senior and clinical nutrition – as well as dairy and beverages goods.
