Unite, the largest union in the country, hailed the deal as ‘a victory for worker solidarity’. The union is consulting its members on the package, but because of the Christmas/new year holidays, this process won’t be completed until early January.
The strike action scheduled for tomorrow (Friday 21 December) has been called off.
Unite regional officer, Des Quinn said: “This is a great victory for the workforce and a tribute to their unity and determination in the face of some very tough challenges recently.
“Unite is consulting the members on the package, which includes an improved above-inflation pay deal backdated to 1 August – the start of the pay year.
“Because of the holiday season, our consultation with the members won’t be completed until early January. In the meantime, we have called off the strike action planned for tomorrow (Friday).”
