Founder of Shannon Ridge, Clay Shannon
Shannon Ridge Family of Wines has acquired Steele Wines for an undisclosed sum, in a deal which will see it become the largest winery in Lake County, California.
As part of the deal, Shannon Ridge has purchased Steele Wines’ winery facilities in Lake County and its diverse portfolio of brands and trademarks. Brands such as Shooting Star, Stymie and Writer’s Block will join the likes of Shannon Reserve, Buck Shack and High Valley.
According to Shannon Ridge, the acquisition will enable increased production capacity which will help accommodate the winery’s growth.
“This merger represents the perfect solution for both parties,” said Shannon Ridge founder and president, Clay Shannon.
He added: “Strategically, the increased production capacity and storage space allows us to continue our expansion goals while providing the Steele Wines family of brands a local partner to further their market distribution.”
Since its establishment in 1996, Shannon’s mission has been to promote Lake County as a premier wine-producing region in California, along with a commitment to sustainable operations and preserving the natural habitats of wildlife.
As well as increase winemaking capacity and storage, Shannon Ridge plans to use the newly-acquired facilities to introduce a new on-site property experience to open in spring 2021. Termed ‘Shannon Mercantile’, the company aims to make it a family-friendly destination in which the public can enjoy its wine with locally-grown food, along with the option of running events.
Following the transaction, founder of Steele Wines, Jed Steele, will assume a supporting role in the winery.
