In the US, natural soda brand Zevia has launched the country’s first naturally sweetened, zero-calorie tonic water, which it has claimed will widen consumer choice within the stevia-sweetened drinks market.
“Historically, tonic water has been full of either empty calories or artificial sweeteners, and now we are offering tonic water drinkers an easy substitute that they can feel good about,” the company said.
Zevia tonic water is flavoured using monkfruit and stevia, similar to the range’s existing cola, ginger root beer and cream soda products. In all, the company manufactures a range of 15 naturally sweetened soft drinks and is the only independent brand in the US’ list of top 20 diet sodas. Zevia tonic water will retail for $5.99 for a pack of six, and will be merchandised in soda and mixer sets when it is officially introduced later this week.
Zevia CEO Paddy Spence said: “Our mission is to bring great-tasting zero calorie, naturally sweetened beverages to consumers across America, and the introduction of Zevia tonic water is a huge step forward for the mixer category. Historically, tonic water has been full of either empty calories or artificial sweeteners, and now we are offering tonic water drinkers an easy substitute that they can feel good about.”
