The app, named Toast’n’Tea-O-TRON 3000, has been created by bread makers Vogel, analyses the type of loaf and how much it has been toasted before coming up with the ideal cup of tea to accompany it to accompany it.
The idea came about after they received a complaint from a customer who had changed their usual tea and felt disappointed it didn’t ‘go’ with their toast in the morning.
The tea/toast matching is a result of painstaking testing carried out by wine expert Susy Atkins and The Savoy’s resident tea guru, Trevor Mordaunt. The pair spent hours tasting hundreds of combinations of tea and toast before agreeing on ideal matches.
They tried six different loaves, toasted to differing degrees of brownness and munched them with 16 different varieties of tea, brewed to differing strengths.
Mordaunt said: “A smokey Lapsong brewed at 100 degrees for five minutes compliments a mid-brown Original Mixed Grain loaf particularly well.”
