British brewer and pub operator Wadworth has developed a new summer pale ale for the European Championship.
The beer, named Optimism, will seek to provide pub-going football fans with a sense of belief – but the Wiltshire-based company has provided landlords with an alternative pump clip for Misplaced Optimism, which fans can enjoy in the event of having to drown their sorrows.
Available throughout the Wadworth pub portfolio and some national accounts and free trade, the ale is a dry golden ale with mild hints of blackcurrant, citrus and pine fruit brewed with a combination of British and American hops. At 4% abv it has a lingering, satisfying bitterness that makes it an ideal accompaniment for the whole match – including penalties – the company said.
Wadworth head brewer Colin Oke said: “We will all be keenly wishing the England team to do well in the Euros, like any tournament they enter and we hope this beer will instil even more optimism in our drinkers for our great team to succeed. I’m sure with this almighty desire behind the team we won’t need to use the alternative pump clip any time soon.”
