Kroger has announced that it has opened a culinary innovation centre in Cincinnati, Ohio to enhance its R&D capabilities.
The 12,000 square-foot facility features a commercial kitchen which will allow the brand to experiment with new food concepts and adapt to changing food trends.
The facility also boasts video streaming technology, which the brand will use to conduct educational sessions and share developments with Kroger associates throughout the US.
One of the main aims of the facility will be to construct new recipes for the brand’s Prep+Pared Meal Kits, as the brand wants to rapidly expand this range in 2018.
Daniel Hammer, Kroger’s vice president of culinary development and new business said: “Kroger’s new culinary innovation centre is an exciting state-of-the-art test kitchen and education centre.
“As we focus on redefining the customer experience and developing talent through food inspiration and uplift, as outlined in Restock Kroger, this R&D lab will allow us to accelerate product development for our brands, produce new recipes for Prep+Pared Meal Kits, explore new restaurant concepts, host food tastings and focus groups, and increase our associates’ culinary knowledge.
“The centre gives our culinary team a fun, modern space to innovate and experiment with food trends, flavours, and ingredients to create new experiences for our customers.”
