Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has announced that it has invested an undisclosed sum in Mopro Nutrition, the manufacturer of a whole milk Greek yoghurt infused with CFM whey protein isolate.
DFA says that it has approved the investment as it wants to support the growth of the dairy industry by helping to bring new, innovative products to the market.
Mopro released its high-protein Greek yogurt in 2017, and the whey protein-infused snack contains 24g of total protein per 5.3oz pot and is marketed as an alternative to protein bars.
Through the partnership, DFA and Mopro will collaborate to increase the distribution of Mopro Nutrition products and build brand awareness.
The startup recently participated in the 2018 Sprint Accelerator programme, part-sponsored by the DFA, which aims to help accelerate the growth of startup businesses.
Monica Massey, senior vice-president and chief of staff at DFA said: “As a farmer-owned cooperative, DFA is continuously looking for innovative ways to bring dairy to consumers, and this investment in Mopro reflects that commitment.
“We think there’s a lot of growth potential with more natural, high-protein products and look forward to working with Mopro to help make them a household brand.”
Michael Moran, founder of Mopro Nutrition added: “I am excited to work with DFA on a permanent basis.
“We developed a nice relationship during the Accelerator program, and they share my vision for evolving the yogurt category and bringing the highest quality and innovative, fresh nutrition products to the marketplace.”
