Mexican food importer MexImport has brought Laterra Artisan Harvest’s authentic Mexican cooking sauces and marinades to UK retailers and foodservice outlets for the first time.
The brand was created by Mexican entrepreneur Carlos Sanchez Mejorada and chef Ada Valencia in 2008, emerging out of the pair’s affinity with the Mexican countryside and deep respect for the country’s traditional cooking methods.
MexImport is now bringing the range – made using natural ingredients to give consumers an authentic taste of Mexico – to the UK. Products being made available include Sinaloa sauce, a mild Mexican red tomato sauce made from fresh tomatoes, serrano chilli peppers, sea salt and coriander; and Michoacán sauce, a salsa verde of tomatillos which is described by the distributor as “the most common culinary sauce in Mexico”.
MexImport project manager Sylvie Perez Johns said: “Response from UK consumers in pre-launch sampling was really positive. People could tell straight away they were getting the real flavours of Mexico without all the preservatives and characteristics of mass produced sauces – and they loved them. This is a great step for artisan food producers in Mexico as well as Mexican food retailers here in the UK and Europe. These products are ideal for adventurous cooks and food lovers looking for an alternative to Tex-Mex. Laterra Artisan Harvest is authentic Mexican.”
