US dairy company Chobani has added a new line of yogurt drinks and a range of dips inspired by Turkish mezze, as it expands its product portfolio beyond Greek yogurts.
The latest Drink Chobani yogurt beverages are made with natural ingredients including real fruit and probiotics, and is an ideal on-the-go source of protein. Pushing the brand into new territory and launching across the US grocery channel in 10oz bottles this July, the line-up will deliver a smooth and simply yogurt drink for a rejuvenating and refreshing burst of flavour on-the-go. Variants include mixed berry, strawberry-banana, apple-cucumber-spinach, and mango.
They will be joined by Chobani Meze dips, which “build on the Mediterranean tradition of shared spreads” and, like the new yogurt drinks, remain true to Chobani’s ethos of using only natural and GMO-free ingredients. The four new dips combine real vegetables, herbs and spices blended with creamy Greek yogurt, and deliver 80% less fat and 65% fewer calories than other hummus products.
The four flavour combinations consist of roasted red pepper, a “sweet and slightly hot mix of fire roasted peppers”; three-pepper salsa, combining green peppers, chili peppers and jalapeño peppers with tomatoes and herbs; chili lime, a “thick and tangy blend of lime and light spice”; plus “bold and rich” smoked onion parmesan.
Launching in June, the mezze-inspired additions will be available in chilled deli aisle at grocery stores and retailers across the country – also in 10oz containers.
Peter McGuinness, chief marketing and brand officer for Chobani, said: “For us, when it comes to food, innovation means sticking to our roots, using simple recipes and only natural ingredients to build on our momentum and guide us into new areas that could use some better options. Chobani’s founding mission is to make better food for more people and as a brand we’re expanding into two new categories like drinks and savory dips to give consumers what they’re looking for: delicious, nutritious, natural food that’s accessible to everyone.”
The Norwich, New York-based company said that the two products followed “on the heels of its Chobani Flip success”, referring to the four new split-pot yogurts launched in August as part of Chobani’s largest ever range expansion.
It has also been announced in the wake of news that European dairy company Arla would release a range of drinking yogurts as part of its portfolio of skyr Icelandic-style yogurts.
