UK-based soft drinks manufacturer Britvic has launched a new sustainability programme called “A Healthier Everyday”, aimed at promoting healthier nutrition choices, supporting the well-being of employees and promoting the responsible use of resources in manufacturing.
The programme establishes three ‘pillars’ – Healthier People, Healthier Communities and Healthier Planet – and the brand hopes to make progress in these areas by 2020.
The Healthier People pillar will see Britvic attempt to reformulate its drinks, with 70% of the brand’s innovation department focusing on no and low sugar drinks.
Britvic’s overall goal in this area is to reduce average calories per 250ml serving by 20% compared with 2013.
The Healthier Communities sector will seek to ensure a better quality of life for Britvic employees, and the 2020 goal is to have women represented in 40% of leadership positions across Britvic, 50% of employees involved in community support programmes and to achieve a total employee well-being score of 81%.
Finally, the Healthier Planet pillar aims to “secure the planet’s future”, by ensuring Britvic manufacturing facilities reduce carbon emissions, recycle all waste, reduce the amount of materials used in the production process and consume less water in production.
Matt Barwell, chief marketing officer at Britvic said: “We have been bringing enjoyment to millions of everyday moments for over a century through our much-loved brands and we are committed to continuing to make a positive difference to the world around us – helping to make it healthier, happier, and more sustainable.
“I am particularly excited about the ‘Healthier People’ pillar of the programme. The health of our consumers is vital to us which is why we’ve long been committed to helping them make healthier choices.”
