Luxury champagne brand Armand de Brignac has unveiled two new varietals as it prepares to launch them later in the year.
New Armand de Brignac Blanc de Noirs and Demi Sec varieties will join the brand’s collection of signature cuvées, which are handcrafted using traditional methods. The two products will launch during the autumn with recommended retail prices of $759.99 and $359.99 respectively.
Blanc de Noirs is made using pinot noir grapes and is described as “the ultimate statement” of Armand de Brignac’s winemaking expertise and style. “Exceptionally refined,” it features a white-gold colour and complex, expressive nose with aromas of blackberries, violet and sweet spices. The final taste is fresh, with some notes of mint and slight tannins.
Armand de Brignac Demi Sec is blended with 40% pinot Noir, 20% pinot meunier and 40% chardonnay grape varietals. It features notes of toffee and grapefruit that evolve into fruit compote, soft caramel, quince paste and subtle brioche aromas, and features flavours of black fruit, candied nectarines, black aniseed candy and milk chocolate. The finish brings sweet spice flavours such as cinnamon.
The brand is hoping that the Demi Sec will inject new life into an otherwise unpopular market segment.
A brand spokesperson said: “While many in the wine industry disregard Demi Sec, the Cattier family wanted to prove that the varietal could be exceptional—and with the release of Armand de Brignac Demi Sec, they have succeeded. As to avoid heavy sweetness, the winemakers focused on keeping the dosage low, with the final dosage 34g of sugar per litre, and used the oldest Armand wines available in the cellars.”
