UK vegan snack brand Bepps has secured its first supermarket listing in Tesco for its line of black-eyed pea puffs.
Sharing bags of its three-strong range – which consist of cheese, sea salt and black pepper, and sweet chilli flavours – have launched into 479 UK stores.
Setting out to innovate the healthy snacking category, the puffs are made with black-eyed peas, a nutrient-dense ingredient which is said to be naturally rich in vitamin A and calcium.
Sourced directly from farmers in South America and West Africa, each black-eyed pea is milled into flour before it is popped, which transforms it into a light puff.
Bepps aims to offer consumers a healthier alternative to traditional crisps and snacks. The brand was founded by Eve Yankah, who grew up eating black-eyed peas as part of her daily diet.
“It’s brilliant to have such early support from Tesco,” she said. “I created Bepps to meet the growing demand for healthier snack alternatives that not only taste delicious but also deliver nutritional benefits.
“My long-term aim to bring the brand and the black-eyed pea to the global stage and this first national listing is a really exciting move in the right direction for us.”
Bepps’ 70g sharing bags are available with a recommended retail price of £1.79.
