Beyond Meat has released a new range of fully plant-based, vegan-friendly sausages called Beyond Sausage.
The product is made from a combination of pea, fava beans and rice proteins, and the sausage casing is derived from algae.
Beyond Meat claims that the product contains 43% less total fat, 38% less saturated fat, 26% less sodium and 27% fewer calories than the average pork sausage.
The vegan-friendly sausage alternative is available in three flavours: Original Bratwurst, Hot Italian and Sweet Italian.
Beyond Sausage is available from the Whole Foods Market Pearl Street store in Boulder, Colorado.
Ethan Brown, CEO of Beyond Meat said: “I love Beyond Sausage first and foremost because it’s truly so enjoyable to eat but also because I see it as an advance in our team’s relentless march toward a perfect build of meat from plants.
“Though we aren’t there yet, I’m encouraged by the progress we’ve made with Beyond Sausage and look forward to hearing what the consumer thinks.”
Red Elk Banks, vice president of Whole Foods Market’s Rocky Mountain region added: “As a category leader in plant-based meat alternatives, Beyond Meat has revolutionized how consumers get their protein.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the Beyond Sausage to our Boulder shoppers, and proud to partner with Beyond Meat on the introduction of another innovative and delicious plant-based protein.”
Earlier this month, Beyond Meat acquired $55 million worth of funding in an investment round led by Tyson Foods and venture capital firm Cleveland Avenue.
