Premium cordial brand Bottlegreen has launched a new Cotswold lemonade and mint sparkling pressé, which it said “offers a contemporary twist on the classic lemonade”.
The new drink is described as “an invigorating combination of fine lemon juice infused with an extract of garden mint and lightly sparkling Cotswold spring water, creating a wonderfully refreshing and palate-cleansing soft drink”. It uses the same traditional wine-making technique that Bottlegreen uses for its flagship elderflower cordial and pressé.
Available in 750ml bottles and 250ml slimline cans with recommended retail prices of £2.39 and £1.45 respectively, the new drink will launch later this month in outlets of retailers including Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Ocado.
Its introduction taps into a growing demand for updated versions of traditional drinks such as lemonade, but also adds to the offering within the adult soft drinks sector. In March, we reported that Britvic Soft Drinks had launched changes to its packaging portfolio in a bid to increase its brands’ appeal among adult consumers; and, earlier this month, we revealed that Schweppes was introducing blood orange- and grapefruit-flavoured sparkling juice varieties to the category.
Bottlegreen Drinks managing director Simon Speers said: “There is undoubtedly a thirst for more interesting flavour combinations, with 46% of consumers saying they would like to see more adventurous flavours and this is something that we have been very keen to develop.
“Last year we launched mango and coconut sparkling pressé, which responded to the growing consumer taste for exotic tropical flavours and which has proved to be a resounding success. With this new addition we have focused on another key adult flavour trend – a ‘retro’ revival in the interest in traditional drinks such as lemonade, and brought it up-to-date with a hint of mint, another traditional flavour which is very much on trend.”
