Wine producer Boutinot has unveiled a distinctive bottle design for its new El Monstruo brand of Argentinian Malbec-Bonarda.
The red wine, from Argentina’s western Mendoza province, is described as “deep, dark and toothsome” and has been inspired by the legend of the Andean Yeti. It is available from UK wine specialists, restaurants and online retailers with a retail price of around £7.
The bottle has adopted a black-label design from London-based design agency Biles Inc. The monotone design features flashes of red and gold colour with a woodcut illustration, together with the arm and eyes of a mysterious, lurking creature. The result is a design that stands out on shelf through disruption and sets itself apart from existing bottles through a combination of consumer engagement and intrigue.
Biles Inc creative director Anthony Biles said: “We wanted to create a sense of foreboding and mystery around El Monstruo, a dark moment caught in time. We employed a trompe-l’oeil graphic effect, creating visual ambiguity, allowing us to leave something in the dark to be discovered, which once seen can never be unseen.”
