Cargill will invest $4.2 million in its beef production facility in Columbia, South Carolina, in order to upgrade the beef grinding capabilities of the plant and meet growing demand for beef products.
Cargill’s investment will pay for precision grinding equipment which will increase the production of high-quality beef for the eastern US market.
The installation should be completed in May 2018, and once the upgrade is completed production capacity of the plant will expand by approximately 15%, according to the company.
John Keating, president, business operations and supply chain, Cargill Protein: “Cargill purchased the Columbia facility in 2016 and today we have more than 200 Columbia employees delivering high-quality beef to our US customers.
“This investment shows our commitment to the beef industry in the Eastern U.S. and allows us to deliver on the increasing needs of beef customers in the region, through the installation of higher performance production technologies.”
