Chippa has launched an initial seven-product offering as part of “the UK’s only gluten- and dairy-free condiment range”.
Launching in supermarket chain Sainsbury’s this month, followed by additional retailers later, the range meets “the growing appetite for free-from options”. The line consists of seven free-from developments: mayonnaise, tomato sauce, brown sauce, salad cream, sweet chilli sauce, Worcestershire sauce and barbecue sauce.
Its May-O mayonnaise was also dairy- and egg-free, meaning that it offers consumers the complete free-from solution, the brand said.
It added that the range’s new packaging would seek to change the dull and worth image of the country’s free-from category, incorporating an upbeat brand that infuses traditionally English condiments with a sense of fun and accessibility. “Bursting boldly onto the retail scene, the Chippa brand has been designed with a distinctively British 1950s look and feel to prompt clear brand recognition and affinity with consumers from launch,” the brand added. The Worcestershire sauce will retail for £1.29, while the remainder of the range will have a recommended retail price of £1.59.
Chippa founder Nigel Parrott said: “As consumer awareness about diet and intolerance continues to grow and the category is thriving, it is absolutely the right time to bring to market a range of condiments that appeal to the free-from customer. Our research clearly showed that consumers wanted a fun and upbeat brand in condiments and Chippa is our answer.
“It is about time there was a satisfactory range of gluten-free condiments giving consumers a variety but also not compromising on taste; this is what we hope to deliver with Chippa.”
