CJ Foods – the US food operations for South Korean food company CJ Cheiljedang – has announced its plans to construct a new Asian food production facility in South Dakota.
Located at Foundation Park in Sioux Falls, the 700,000 square-foot facility will include automated food production lines, a warehouse and distribution centre, as well as shipping and receiving docks, and office space.
According to CJ Foods, the investment will reportedly add more than 600 new full-time jobs by 2025. Many sources report that the project will represent an overall investment of several hundred million dollars over the course of construction.
In operation since 1978, CJ Foods is a manufacturer and distributor of Asian food products with a focus on Korean food. The company’s portfolio includes the brands Bibigo and Annie Chun’s, featuring packaged food products such as dumplings, noodles and sauces.
All food made at the plant will be sold and distributed by CJ Foods and Schwan’s Company, a fellow US-based affiliate and frozen food firm of CJ Cheiljedang.
With the support of global CJ Cheiljedang, CJ Foods looks to drive awareness of Asian food across the US and the investment will support its growth initiatives in the retail and food-service markets throughout the nation. CJ Foods currently operates five Asian-style food plants in the US, while Schwan’s Company operates two.
“We thank state and local officials in South Dakota for helping to bring this project to Sioux Falls. We look forward to building a long-lasting relationship that will be mutually beneficial for CJCJ’s family of businesses and the residents of South Dakota,” said executive chairman of CJCJ Food, Americas and Schwan’s Company CEO Dimitrios Smyrnios.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem added: “South Dakota is open for business, and we’re excited for this tremendous investment in our state. The Sioux Falls community will benefit greatly from the new full-time jobs that this facility will provide.”
