Ambev’s advertisement shows a yellow ice cream tub with a beer-can-style lid and the tagline, ‘Shall we go to the bar to have an ice cream?’.
AFP has reported that Brazil’s National Council for Self-Regulation – a non-governmental organisation that raises awareness about unethical advertising – has issued the brewery with a warning, arguing that the advertisement will encourage young children and teenagers to drink irresponsibly.
Skol ice cream, which doesn’t contain any alcohol, is being sold for a limited time in bars in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and is therefore not available to under 18s. Yet, the advertisement appears on the brand’s website and Facebook page, and the NCSF argues that the promotion could negatively influence children because the Facebook content isn’t protected with age-limit controls.
According to the AFP, this isn’t the first time that the NCSF has warned Ambev about an advertisement. In 2012, the brewery received another warning for advertising beer-flavoured Easter eggs.
