Huge numbers of amendments to the EU’s future farm policy will be voted tomorrow in the Strasbourg Plenary Session. Among these, a series of amendments are relevant for the dairy sector, according to European Dairy Association (EDA).
The European dairy industry is counting on responsible members of the European parliament to reject attempts to introduce dairy supply management in times of crisis.
Joop Kleibeuker, secretary general of EDA, representing the European dairy processors, said: “I cannot imagine that the Dantin proposal for crisis supply management will get support in the plenary.
“The system is just not manageable, it will be counterproductive and at the end will hurt the industry, the farmers and the consumers alike. In addition, it would be a serious step backwards in the EU dairy policy.
“EDA has always requested predictability, this would provide just the opposite” Kleibeuker adds. The European dairy industry also asks that any proposal to postpone the abolition of milk quotas should be rejected for the same reasons.
