Protein-rich food producer Dr Zak’s has launched a new bagel that has “twice the amount of protein in it as an average bagel”.
Containing roughly the equivalent amount of protein as a chicken breast and 40% less carbohydrates than a regular bagel, the new products offer consumers a convenient alternative to protein shakes as a go-to source of muscle-repairing protein.
Available in multi-grain and seed varieties, with an additional cinnamon and raising bagel in development, the bagels will retail with a recommended retail price of £3.50 for a four-pack. Made from the natural ingredients, the bagels feature the same consistency and taste as their standard counterparts for less than 300 calories, and will join the brand’s existing high-protein pasta and high-protein bread.
A brand spokesperson said: “If you train your body hard then one of the most important nutrients you need is protein, the basic building block for muscle recovery and growth. Getting your protein levels up isn’t always the tastiest of experiences though, and for many involves protein shakes and bars. Dr Zak’s hopes to change things for the better, however, with their latest product launch.”
