Mark Hunter, Ted Tuppen CBE and Helen Humpreys will join the board, which comprises an equal number of trustees from the alcohol industry and from the medical/public health community, with a further three independent trustees.
In 2009, Drinkaware received a boost in annual funding to more than £5m for three years, marking a major commitment from more than 50 alcohol-related companies to tackling alcohol misuse. The funding, coupled with an updated ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ between the department of health, the alcohol industry and The Drinkaware Trust, reinforced the principle that reducing alcohol misuse is everyone’s responsibility and in everyone’s interest.
The Drinkaware board ensures that Drinkaware provides a high return on industry investment by bringing together skills and expertise from various fields.
Derek Lewis, chairman of Drinkaware said: “We’re pleased to welcome our new trustees to the Drinkaware board. The broad expertise and experience they bring will further enhance our effectiveness in a critically important national task. We are privileged to have the benefit of such a talented team.”
