The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.
Studer produces and sells a select range of semi-hard and hard cheeses, the most famous of which is the Sharp Maxx. The products are mainly available in Switzerland and Germany. Through this acquisition, Emmi says it can expand its offerings in the specialty cheese section.
“Studer AG has excellent knowhow in the production of specialty cheese and manufactures high-quality Swiss products,” said Emmi CEO Urs Riedener. “Emmi can help the company expand its sales internationally. This is a win-win scenario for both parties.”
Studer AG, founded in 1929, is in its third generation. The company reported 2012 sales of approximately CHF 20m. CEO Daniel Studer and his senior management colleagues will remain in the company.
