FrieslandCampina has bolstered its US operations as it has acquired US-based speciality cheese importer and distributor Best Cheese Corporation USA for an undisclosed figure.
Headquartered in Westchester County, Best Cheese Corporation imports a range of speciality cheeses including well-known brands as Parrano, Robusto, Melkbus, as well as a range of Gouda cheeses made from cow, goat or sheep milk.
Together with the acquisition of Jana Foods, announced earlier this month, this agreement will further strengthen FrieslandCampina’s position in the North American consumer market.
Best Cheese will be fully integrated into the FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy U.S.A.-business, and the former shareholders of Best Cheese will not continue to be involved with the business.
Roel van Neerbos, president of FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy said: “As a part of our transformative strategy, we continue to focus on delivering the best product to serve consumer’s needs.
“The Americas is a strategic growth market for us. By acquiring Best Cheese and Jana Foods we will be able to grow our cheese business in the region further.”
Willem Jan Rote, former owner of Best Cheese added: “The combination of Best Cheese’s USA position as an established speciality cheese vendor and the strength of FrieslandCampina as the leading supplier of Dutch Cheese, will take the success of our brands Parrano, Robusto and Melkbus to the next level.”
The acquisition is the third acquisition made by FrieslandCampina in as many weeks, as the company acquired Spanish cheese co-packer and distributor Millán Vicente last week, as well as the purchase of Jana Foods at the start of the month.
