It is a complete milk powder plant with a capacity to produce more than 100,000 tonnes of dairy powders per year, which will make it one of the largest plants of its kind in Europe.
For GEA Process Engineering, the order is one of the largest the company has received in the dairy industry.
With the new plant, Glanbia will be adding a significant capacity to the dairy processor’s existing capacity at facilities in Ballyragget and Virginia, Ireland. The new plant is primarily to produce nutritional powders for export market in the Middle East, Africa, Central America, Asia and other regions, and is an important part of Glanbia’s growth strategy.
GEA Process Engineering will be supplying the complete plant, drawing on the company’s full scope of dairy process technologies and components, ranging from the milk reception through standardisation, evaporation and drying to powder transport and packing.
Construction is already in progress and the new facility is planned to be in operation spring 2015.
