High-protein, sugar-free ice cream brand Wheyhey has secured its first listing with UK supermarket chain Tesco, which it has described as “a significant breakthrough for the brand”.
The ice cream is made from high-quality whey protein isolate, created in the cheese making process, and sweetened with the natural sweetener xylitol to minimise impact on blood sugar levels. A 150ml tub of ice cream has only 4g of fat, provides as much protein as a medium-sized chicken breast, and equates to around 150 calories. The ice cream is available in chocolate, banoffee, strawberry and vanilla flavours.
The range will first be available online from Tesco, before rolling out in select stores shortly after.
Wheyhey co-founder Damien Kennedy said: “We’re really excited to take the Wheyhey brand into grocery retail in the UK with Tesco. Tesco are forward thinking partners who are at the forefront of offering UK consumers great tasting, truly healthy and nutritious food, the demand for which is experiencing explosive growth.”
Fellow co-founder Greg Duggan continued: “Our high-protein, sugar-free ice cream offers something completely different to the current offering in supermarket freezers. Our goal is to change what it means for consumers to eat truly great tasting, healthy food and this listing is the beginning.
And Tesco buying manager for frozen foods Adom Dennis added: “We’re really pleased to be able to offer customers Wheyhey ice cream. It’s a really innovative product which we believe offers customers something new and exciting.”
