At Dubai’s Gulfood 2015 exhibition, held from 8-12 February, Bill Bruce interviewed Alara founder Alex Smith about yacon – one of the ‘lost crops of the Incas’, he also talks about the company’s origins and the range of products it offers.
Trading since 1975, Alara is dedicated to quality and sustainability. The brand’s factory is located in the heart of London, where it plays an active part in a diverse and vibrant local community.
Certified by the Soil Association since 1988, Alara is the first company in the UK registered with the Coeliac Society. Operating from a modern unit, production is conducted in adherence to British Retail Consortium quality standards, Grade A.
Alara’s main mission is to become the most sustainable food manufacturer on Earth. The company has given itself until 2018 to reach this goal.
