Kolé Tonics, created by beverage brand Kolé Life Foods, is one of the latest functional beverages to launch on the market. Currently available to purchase online, Kolé Tonics claims to be the “future of functional” and promises to provide its consumers with “greater benefits” and a more enjoyable drinking experience. We spoke with neuroscientist and founder of the company Dr Bankole Johnson about the new range and what makes Kolé Tonics different.
Tell us about Kolé Tonics. How did you start up the brand?
One fine day, I was sent to the grocery store by my wife to purchase some items. I happened to pass by the beverage counters, and was overwhelmed by the large number of products. As I started to review what was on offer, two ideas came into my mind. One, looking at the formulations of the so-called functional drinks, most of the ingredients seemed to me like they would not produce the desired effects in the amount and way they were being given. Certainly, I believed that we could develop more functional products that would support healthy brain function and provide the consumer with an enjoyable beverage. So, that was the challenge that we took up.
Tell us about the drinks. How did you create them? How long did it take to develop?
The drinks were created by first doing due diligence research to determine what nutrients have the functionality that I was looking for, then, I sought to blend them in a way as to bring out the best effects. This was a painstaking effort that took about two years.
How much research have you done to back up the drinks’ health claims?
Our products were formulated with the input of a team of scientists and physicians. So, it is our practice and our passion to follow the latest scientific research and this is what we do relative to our tonics. We have reviewed countless ingredient studies to evaluate the support for our claims and we are constantly investigating the benefits of new potential ingredients that may be added or may form the basis for completely new products.
What makes Kolé Tonics “the future of function”?
By providing these drinks that are the “future of function” the consumer has, for the first time, the ability to harness the power of a range of products to help support the performance of several aspects of their brain and mind. The beverages help you function at your peak level.
Why do you think Kolé Tonics will appeal to consumers?
Functional drinks are now popular because we all recognise the need to get more from what we take in to be all that we can be. Our brains really are connected with what is going on in our gut. It is no longer enough for us to live longer but we all yearn to have more of those years like the peak of our youth. And for those at the peak of youth, the desire is to sustain that for as long as possible. Our technological age pushes us to these heights as we see the real possibilities of enhancing our physical world with mechanics so why not our brains – our most precious resource – with tonics.
What are your plans for 2016?
We are working on the diversification of our product line, increasing the organic content of the tonics whilst enhancing both the taste and pleasure derived from them.
