Naturex managing director Peo Crona spoke with FoodBev’s Alex Clere at Health Ingredients Europe 2018 about the functional benefits offered by its Sweoats ingredients portfolio.
Naturex acquired the Sweoats portfolio as part of its purchase of Swedish Oat Fiber last year, which significantly expanded the company’s presence in the nutrition segment.
The Sweoats range is comprised of oat oils, oat flours and high beta-glucan oat concentrates, which are produced using a unique production process which fractionates oat kernels into the three product lines.
The beta-glucans and oat flours can be used in a wide variety of food applications including sauce packets, cereals and sports bars, while the oat oils can be used as an emulsifier in place of other oils.
“At this show, we are trying to promote the high-fibre concentrates, because oats are a trendy product which is well known by consumers.
“Consumers know that oats offer good health benefits, so the timing is good for promoting those type of products.”
When asked about the benefits of the beta-glucans with regards to glycemic response, Crona said: “A lot of clinical trials show that the beta-glucans in oats provide significant benefits.
“We also see positive effects when it comes to satiety and weight management.”
