The advertisement has been created following the media furore created last week when Sherbet Fountain maker Tangerine Confectionery announced that it was modernising the packaging of the iconic brand.
Helen Sears, group marketing manager of Tangerine Confectionery, said: “We were overwhelmed by the consumer and media reaction to the new pack, and so we want to demonstrate to consumers that while we’ve modernised the pack, the famous Sherbet Fountain combination of liquorice stick and sherbet remains the same.”
The 2.5-metre-long ‘Dabvert’, which features a giant version of the new pack, will be sampled by thousands of London commuters. A customer questionnaire will be distributed to gather feedback on the reinvention of the instantly recognisable childhood favourite.
“Sherbet Fountain was launched over 80 years ago, and many people will remember it as a favourite from their childhood,” said Sears. “But in order for the product to be here for another 80 years, we knew that it needed to appeal to new a generation.
“The product improvements include a resealable tube to keep the product fresher for longer, to stop sherbet from leaking and to ensure that the product is tamper-proof. We’ve updated the sleeve design, but hope that it will still be instantly recognisable to our loyal customers.”
