Thai Union-owned John West will launch a new range of tuna toppings in the UK to meet growing consumer demand for snacks that are naturally high in protein.
Called Cracker Toppers, the line is a reinvention of the current Spreadables range and is said to be ideal for crackers and crispbreads. Four flavours will be available: mayo and sweetcorn, Mexican style, Mediterranean, and sweet chilli.
With no preparation needed and an easy-to-use ring pull lid, Cracker Toppers are positioned as a quick and convenient snacking solution.
John West is also extending its range of Steam Pots, combining the flavours of its tuna Infusions range with seasoned rice, pasta or noodles.
Recipes include sundried tomato infusion with rich tomato pasta, soy and ginger infusion with sweet and sour noodles, Indian spiced infusion with biryani rice, jalapeno infusion with Mexican salsa rice, chilli and garlic infusion with red pepper couscous, and basil infusion with red pepper marinara pasta.
The Steam Pots line is marketed as a quick, convenient lunchtime solution, and consumers need to add boiling water, stir, leave for five minutes and then stir the fish through.
John West believes the extended Steam Pots range, which includes flavours from Far East, Mexico and the Mediterranean, will appeal to a younger demographic.
Jon Burton, marketing director at John West, said: “We’re committed to product innovation and driving growth by responding to consumer needs. Our new Cracker Toppers and Steam Pot variants offer customers on-trend new flavours in exciting formats.”
Both ranges will go on sale in the UK from June, with Cracker Toppers retailing for £1.10 and Steam Pots for £2.49.
