British ice cream brand Jude’s has launched a new honey and toasted almond variety, which will be used to support a Unicef campaign to help Syrian children affected by the crisis in their country.
The new flavour is made with swirls of British honey and toasted almond flakes and is inspired by the flavours of Syria, Jude’s said.
£1 from the sale of each tub will go to help support the millions of children affected by the Syrian crisis through Unicef NEXTGeneration – one of the few project working inside Syria to provide children with crucial supplies such as clean water, medicine and psychological support.
The launch is in collaboration with #CookForSyria, a collective of foodies raising money to support children affected by the country’s civil war.
Jude’s managing director Chow Mezger said: “We are delighted to launch this delicious Syrian-inspired flavour in collaboration with #CookForSyria. At Jude’s we’re committed to supporting children and young people through our charitable giving and we’re proud to support #CookForSyria.”
The charitable variant is on top of the other partnerships Jude’s has committed to: the family-owned company is currently working with Home for Good, which aims to find a good home for every child in the UK, and Spear, which helps disadvantaged young people to build self-esteem and get into work.
The business will donate 10% of its profits to charities and local causes this year.
It also released a chocolate and sea salt variety, combining rich Colombian cacao and a touch of Maldon sea salt, in February.
“Here at Jude’s, family is at the heart of our business and we are committed to giving back to the community and to the wider world. We donate 10% of our profits to charities that support children and young people,” the ice cream maker said.
Jude’s also runs educational programmes for schools close to its dairy in the UK, where children are invited to learn about food production and set business challenges to raise money for charities of their choice.
The honey and toasted almond ice cream will be available from online supermarket Ocado this month. It has a recommended retail price of £4.50 for a 500ml tub.
