R&R Ice Creams has announced an expansion to its Kelly’s brand of Cornish ice cream with the introduction of a new salted caramel flavour.
The new addition is made from clotted cream and combines Cornish sea-salted caramel ice cream with pieces of fudge, and will be launched into retailers from next month with a price of £3.99. It will join the brand’s existing range of clotted cream ice creams, which include strawberry, chocolate and honeycomb flavours.
Its launch will be supported by a £1.5m marketing campaign and “strategic partnership” with the Cornish Sea Salt Company, which “allows R&R Ice Creams to build on the Kelly’s origin story, as well as providing a strong unique selling point for retailers”.
The Kelly’s brand was acquired by R&R Ice Cream – Europe’s largest ice cream producer – in 2009. “Since then, the company has broadened the brands’ appeal,” it claimed, and Kelly’s is now worth more than £25m.
Charlotte Hambling, head of UK marketing for R&R Ice Creams, said: “Since the acquisition of Kelly’s we have achieved excellent growth in terms of driving awareness of the brand outside of the county and gaining national distribution across major retailers.
“We have achieved distribution levels of 82.5% on our bestselling flavour, clotted cream, and following the strategic decision to focus on new flavours, we spotted an opportunity to develop a salted caramel flavour.”
