It coincides with news that the company has won contracts to supply milk to 146 primary schools and 16 high schools across Wrexham, Denbighshire and Conwy.
The company says the move bucks the national trend. While other dairies in the UK have been forced to contract in the difficult economic climate, family-owned Tomlinson’s has enjoyed steady growth.
Eventually all production will be transferred to the new facility which, at 70,000 sqft in size and fitted with the latest equipment, will have the capacity to produce more than 150 million litres of milk a year.
Philip Tomlinson who co-owns the business with his brother, John, said: “Anyone who is familiar with Tomlinson’s will know that this expansion has been in the planning for some time.
“We are delighted to have won this contract, and to be able to produce the milk in our new dairy at the same time is just wonderful for us.”
Tomlinson’s move towards more sustainable packaging has also helped it win new business.
“We are moving to Elopak cartons, which are made from renewable wood fibre in the form of paperboard, sourced from sustainable and responsibly managed woodland. All our schools’ milk will be supplied in these cartons,” said Philip Tomlinson.
The company also recently rebranded with a new ‘Love Milk’ concept across its products, vehicle fleet, website and livery. The rebranding was a finalist in the Best Fresh Dairy Campaign category of the recent Elopak Dairy Marketing Awards 2012.
