Nissin Foods rebranding its Top Ramen line in the US as it responds to consumer demand for reduced sodium and fewer artificial ingredients.
Added MSG and artificial flavours have been removed from the entire Top Ramen product line. The range also now has an average of 15% less sodium.
To accompany the recipe update, Nissin is unveiling new, modernised product packaging. In a response to consumer demand for vegetarian options on shelf, the packaging now calls out the two vegetarian flavours – soy sauce (formerly called oriental) and chili – so they are more easily identified.
Nissin Foods USA director of marketing Gary Lai said: “Top Ramen is a product that consumers love, on its own or dressed up. What’s imperative to us is that the core product – the ramen noodle – maintains its delicious flavour and integrity.
“However, in response to consumer demand, we’ve been working diligently to remove unnecessary ingredients and lower the sodium, while preserving the same taste and texture. We asked ourselves, ‘How much can we remove while still maintaining our noodle essence?’ We liken the process to finding our ‘noodle zen’ and we’re extremely proud of the results.”
The range is now on sale across the US.
