Pepsi has showcased a new Facebook Messenger chatbot called ‘Bot-tler’ during an event in Dubai that allows users to order their preferred Pepsi beverage and notifies them when their drink is ready to be picked up.
Attendees at the event had to locate a Pepsi Messenger code on Pepsi signs placed throughout the event or search for the chatbot in the Facebook Messenger app. Once they had it, they could start a conversation with ‘Bot-tler’ and place their drink order.
The innovation in this chatbot is the back-end ordering system’s integration with the front end bot interface, which was built by Indian technology-centric digital marketing agency AliveNow.
While the bot was expressly created for the purpose of this event, the Pepsi Bot-tler could serve to inspire many food and drink ordering systems that are looking to increase engagement and efficiency.
We recently reported that Facebook launched a US food delivery service on its website which enabled users to order food through its website via third-party services like DoorDash and EatStreet.
The social media company claims that it is making it easier for people who already go to Facebook to discover nearby restaurants and see what their friends have to say about them. Users can browse restaurants by visiting the order food section in the explore menu of the Facebook website. They can then decide if they want takeout or home delivery.
Facebook said it has been testing the service for a year. Users will now be able to order food directly from restaurants such as Papa John’s, TGI Friday’s and El Pollo Loco.
