“For a claim to be made of ‘unrivalled hygienic benefits’, the supplier must be able to independently verify their statement,” said David Mathews, managing director of PHS Waterlogic. “Unsubstantiated claims may misrepresent qualities or standards relied upon by an unwitting buyer and thus be misleading. When these claims are made in connection to the quality of drinking water, it could have serious implications, and we have a very dim view of those making such statements without justification.”
The message to buyers is ‘caveat emptor’ (let the buyer beware), or at least to be conscious of the different standards of purification available in the mains-fed water dispensing market.
