Açaí superfood brand Sambazon has secured its first major UK listing for its fresh açaí bowl offering with Whole Foods Market.
Further national expansion plans are set to go live later this summer, with negotiations already underway with a UK grocery multiple, as well as various foodservice and entertainment outlets, Sambazon said.
From this week, the Brazilian-born brand’s açaí bowl machine will be installed across the supermarket’s Kensington and Piccadilly Circus sites. Each machine is designed to produce over 200 ready-to-eat bowls of fresh açaí every hour, which will be topped with healthy ingredients such as granola, berries and coconut shavings.
It will mark the first time that Sambazon’s açaí product has been available to UK consumers and is the beginning of the brand’s vigorous UK growth plans.
Alistair Cullen, Sambazon’s UK commercial director, said: “The açaí bowl movement is quickly gaining momentum in Britain, as functional foods with added health benefits remain popular and the trend towards Brazilian culinary influences takes hold. However, despite an increasing number of restaurants and cafes backing these trends, fresh and high-quality açaí is still relatively unattainable. It’s therefore Sambazon’s aim to bring this superfood to the masses, offering consumers, retailers and foodservice outlets alike something innovative, tasty and above all healthy.
“We’ve witnessed incredible triumphs in America and are hugely excited to replicate this success in the UK, where we hope to see similar sales results and grow the UK açaí catgeory.”
