Smoothie brand Savse has launched a new flavour of juice, which champions the original colour of carrots.
The purple carrot juice will be available to purchase from Harvey Nichols and Selfridges from 6 July with a recommended retail price of £2.49 for each 250ml bottle. Major supermarket listings would then follow, the British brand said.
The heritage vegetable, widely available in the UK until the 17th century, boasts a great depth of flavour and up to 28 times more antioxidants than orange carrots, which were introduced by the Dutch as a mark of patriotism and respect to the king.
Savse founder Guka Taveridze said: “Purple carrots are much earthier, crunchier and less watery than the common supermarket type, making them the perfect base for Savse’s latest smoothie, we were so excited when we discovered the purple carrot that we knew we had to create a new smoothie, celebrating the true roots of the carrot and keeping it natural for our consumers.
“Today’s consumers are becoming more health-conscious and are constantly driven towards natural offerings and new or under valued ingredients. We wanted to create a product that is not only visionary in its health offering but one that tastes great and brings new flavours to our discerning audience who are sick of synthetic tasting smoothies with added sugars.”
Savse cold-presses all of its ingredients to retain the essential goodness of the full fruit and vegetables used.
Using high-pressure processing to preserve the vital nutrients and remove any undesirable ingredients, the company is able to ensure a high quality of flavour with no artificial colours, preservatives or added sugars.
