British liqueur producer Stellacello has launched what it has described as the country’s first Amaro – a bitter-sweet liqueur that combines herbs, fruits and spices.
The result of persistent experimentation, Stellacello’s new Amaro London features “soft citrus overtones that accentuate the eclectic combination of locally sourced ingredients,” it said. The company claimed that the Amaro was best served neat over ice as an after-dinner drink, but has also released signature cocktail selections such as the Stellaroni – a take on the classic Negroni – which combines gin, sweet vermouth and Amaro London.
The product’s introduction extends Stellacello’s liqueur offering, which currently consists of a distinctive and diverse grapefruit liqueur called Pompelmo. A twist on the classic Italian limoncello, it can be enjoyed neat as a citrusy aperitivo or digestivo, although – like Amaro London – it works equally as well as a classy cocktail component.
As Stellacello founder Joe Stella explained, “there was always something knocking around the family home” when he was young.
A spokesperson for the brand added: “Having been an Amaro lover for many years, Joe Stella initially commenced work on this Britannic bitter as a personal challenge to himself. His goal; to not just create something that he was extremely happy with, but to create a tipple that could sit proudly amongst his own collection of Italian Amari. After much recipe refinement, the first British Amaro was born.”
