The association is taking that message to TV viewers, too, with their newest ‘Corn Sugar’ commercials.
The misperceptions surrounding high fructose corn syrup are extensive. To assist consumers in readily identifying added sugars in the diet, the Corn Refiners Association began an educational campaign in 2008 to dispel the myths about high fructose corn syrup, or HFCS, what we believe would be more accurately called ‘corn sugar.’
The goal of this educational effort is to provide consumers credible, science-based information to enable them to make informed decisions about their diet, the association said. To achieve this goal, they are sharing the views of independent experts who have researched high fructose corn syrup.
The association said: “Our goal is not to present high fructose corn syrup as a health food, nor is our goal to increase consumption of high fructose corn syrup. Our goal is to clear up confusion about its role in the food and beverages Americans consume.”
