Universal Flexible Packaging has announced a multi-million pound investment in new factory premises in Lewisher Road, Leicester in the UK.
The company has has been based at its Lunsford Road, Leicester site since 2004. This new investment will increase the company’s production capacity and allow for further planned growth for the future.
The company, established by Tinku Durrani in 1995, specialises in flexible film and contract packaging for the food industry, with several retail brand leaders and multinationals among its customers. It also specialises in the production of popcorn and snack foods.
Significant organic growth and investment in new machinery over the past few years has been funded directly by the Durrani family. The new deal, however, which will see a state-of-the-art facility on Lewisher Road creating in excess of 56 new jobs, has been supported by a grant of £700k from the LLEP in addition to £5.15m funding from Royal Bank of Scotland, £750k from Lombard Group and the remainder from the Durrani family.
“The Regional Growth Fund grant scheme is designed to help business to grow and to facilitate job creation, contributing to a wealthier local economy,” said Kevin Harris of PKF Cooper Parry, vice-chair of the LLEP. “The LLEP is delighted to have been able to support Universal Flexible Packaging’s ambitious growth plans through our £21m RGF grant programme.”
“As part of Universal Flexible Packaging’s plan for growth, we have been looking for suitable new premises for some time,” said UFP commercial director John Harrison. “We were delighted to find and complete the deal on the property on Lewisher Road, which will enable us to further upgrade and increase our production capability across all product lines and to increase our dedicated space for popcorn production.
“Our business has been expanding throughout the recessionary years and we are well placed to grow our sales in flexible food packaging, within our current client base and for new clients around the UK.”
Work on the interior refit of the Lewisher Road factory has already begun, and it is intended that the move from Lunsford Road will be complete by summer 2015.
