Asian dairy producer Yili Group has opened an ice cream factory in Bekasi City, West Java, Indonesia.
The new facility, which Yili claims is the largest ice cream factory in Indonesia, will have a daily production capacity of four million ice cream products upon completion of its second phase. It was constructed to meet the growing demand for Joyday ice cream, a popular brand in the country.
“Local consumers’ clear preference for and trust in our products has reinforced Yili’s confidence about our long-term investment and development in Indonesia,” said Pan Gang, chairman and president of Yili Group, in a virtual speech delivered at the ceremony.
He continued: “Yili is always dedicated to following the highest standards to drive quality, sustainable development over the long term and establishing localised operations that benefit the communities where we operate. This ensures that we can better serve local consumers and make deep contributions to socio-economic development throughout the region.”
The site integrates digital technologies throughout the production chain, and uses robotics solutions for its automated packing, palletising and warehousing operations.
It also includes a wastewater treatment system with a daily capacity of 2,800 tons – reclaimed water is then used for the irrigation of plants in the factory. The factory uses energy-saving motors and natural gas boilers, which help cut electricity consumption by 1.21 million kilowatt-hours per year and carbon dioxide emissions by 8,029 tons per year.
The site employs 383 people and is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs for local communities (directly and indirectly) once completed.
