Metcalfe’s Food Company, known for its Skinny range of snacks has introduced Skinny Corncakes, which were on show at the Lunch 2014 event recently. Claire Phoenix interviewed Fletcher Bowley on how the team came up with new flavours.
He explains how brand founder Julian Metcalfe had the inspiration to move away from the typical rice cake into a corncake format that’s easy to snack on. The company has already had success with corncakes with milk and dark chocolate toppings and wanted to move into the savoury flavour profile. These comprise Mediterranean-inspired flavours such as rosemary with olive oil, and they contain fewer than 100 calories a bag and are gluten-free.
Founder Julian started with Sweet ‘n Salt Topcorn and is now the leading brand and leading flavour in Skinny Popcorn with its recently launched white cheese a mild Cheddar and Sweet Cinammon spice. They’re available in major grocery multiples and through contract foodservice and in leisure, deli and travel sector outlets.
