Inventure Foods has expanded its Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods’ line of rice bran oil-cooked kettle chips with two new flavours: buffalo ranch and sweet chipotle.
Available now in the US, the new varieties join the brand’s existing flavours: roasted jalapeno and pink Himalayan salt.
Boulder Canyon chooses to cook its chips in 100% pure rice bran oil “to offer consumers a snack balanced with polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats”.
The oil is extracted from the outer layer of brown rice and is said to impart a milder finish to highlight each variety’s flavour.
Buffalo ranch pairs a kick of spice with a complementary cool finish, while sweet chipotle offers layered flavours of pepper combined with brown sugar and molasses.
Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods senior vice president Steve Sklar said: “We constantly look for innovative ways to bring our unique flavour combinations to life, particularly when paired with the distinctive oils used to cook our chips.
“Rice bran oil allows us to cook at a higher temperature, which is ideal for delivering the smoky flavour notes that complement buffalo ranch, sweet chipotle and our existing roasted jalapeno varieties.”
Boulder said it cooks all varieties of its chips in small batch kettles to provide a more uniform product with a heartier crunch than traditional potato chips.
The new flavours are now available in the US with a recommended retail price of $3.49 per 5.25oz package.
